Local private businessman Greg Thompson conceptualizes the need for Sumter's first charter school. To bring his concept to fruition, he begins bringing on individuals, experts in their field, who share his vision of bringing a public charter school to our community.

December 16, 2019
An organizational meeting for Sumter STEAM Charter School is held. Eleven minds are chosen to come together for one mission:
To form a school of inquiry, innovation, and impact.
January 1, 2020
Sunset Country Club officially becomes Quixote Club, created to connect, inspire, and change lives through golf. With the support of its philanthropic minded members, proceeds from Quixote Club will be reinvested back into the community through the Sumter STEAM Charter School.
January 31, 2020
The planning committee submits its official charter school application to the SC Department of Education and SC Public Charter School District.
February 10, 2020
Our website was launched.
April 16, 2020
We are unanimously approved by the South Carolina Public Charter School District as Sumter County’s first tuition-free public school.
May 15, 2020
Sumter STEAM Charter is officially recognized as a non-profit organization by the IRS.
June 26, 2020
The Founding Board unanimously selects
Dr. Khalil Graham as its Founding Executive Director.
July 6, 2020
Sumter STEAM Charter secures a federal Charter Schools Program start-up grant in the amount of $800,090.
August 13, 2020
We officially announce our new name: Liberty STEAM Charter School.
July 29, 2020
After a three-month approval process, Sumter STEAM Charter secures 15 School Street, the former Liberty Street Elementary School, to house its Primary Academy Campus.
August 20, 2020
A ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house is held for our new administrative offices at 117 Main Street.
December 3, 2020
Liberty STEAM Charter conducted its initial enrollment lottery to randomly select 144 scholars for its founding kindergarten and first-grade classes.
December 11, 2020
We officially announced our rebranding for LSC including a new website and logo.
