- LSC Receives Conditional Approval To Expand Enrollment
In a hearing with the SC Public Charter School District (SCPCSD) Board of Trustees, Liberty STEAM Charter (LSC) has received conditional approval for its enrollment expansion amendment request filed in mid-November 2020. Conditional approval means that the state per pupil funding allocation of $6,089 (Base Student Cost) for the additional 48 scholars is contingent upon the state’s budget allocation to the SCPCSD provide for LSC’s increased enrollment in FY 2022-23. LSC’s current waitlist includes nearly 80 scholars. The Founding Board of Directors made a unified decision to direct its senior school leaders to proceed with full admission of an additional 24 scholars in kindergarten and 24 scholars in first grade. - LSC Receives $1 million Pledged Donation From Williams-Brice-Edwards Trust
Liberty STEAM Charter has received a pledged donation from the Sumter based Williams-Brice-Edwards Charitable Trust totaling $1 million to support future capital improvement projects. The pledged amount of financial support will be allocated in phases over the next three years to LSC to be used for capital improvement projects. Frank O. Edwards, chairman of the Williams-Brice-Edwards Charitable Trust, presented an initial check in the amount of $350,000 to the LSC Senior Leadership Team on December 21, 2020. The Williams-Brice-Edwards Charitable Trust expressed commitment to pay the remaining balance of $650,000 in two annual equal installments in fiscal years 2022 and 2023, respectively. “This significant investment will help us to grow into the transformational educational experience that we seek to provide to our scholars and their families and we are truly appreciative of this affirmation,” stated Dr. Khalil Graham, LSC executive director. With just under 200 days away from opening its doors to serve the community, Liberty STEAM Charter (LSC) has finalized its senior and school-based leadership teams to ensure a strong launch for Sumter’s newest public school. After conducting a nation-wide search that spanned three months, LSC is announcing the following four additional individuals who have accepted various leadership positions within the organization. - Final call for Fall 2020 Enrollment Period
LSC has received a minimum of 72 lottery applications for its 2021-22 founding kindergarten and first-grade classes. Pursuant to the SC Charter Schools Act of 1996 (59-40-10), a Public lottery is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 3 at 6 p.m. and will be held in the CCTC Advanced Manufacturing Training Center. It will also be streamed live via LSC's Facebook page. To be considered in the initial lottery, applications must be received on or before 11:59 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 30, 2020. Parents can enter their K-1 scholar into the lottery online at libertysteamcharter.org/enrollment or call/text 803-569-1217.
