- Nation-wide Search Begins For Next Two Members Of Senior Leadership Team
To kick off the third official month of its planning year, Liberty STEAM Charter (LSC) has launched a nation-wide search for the next two members of its senior leadership team. The two positions include the Founding Senior Director Operations and the Founding Dean of the Primary Academy. - Administrative Offices: Ribbon Cutting & Open House
Thank you to everyone who came out to show your support at our ribbon cutting and open house our new administrative offices! This convenient location in beautiful downtown Sumter will allow us the space to officially conduct the business of Liberty STEAM Charter during our planning year and to interact with prospective families and scholars, potential partners and other key stakeholders. We are ready to roll up our sleeves and get to work!
- Billboard campaign launches
We have started a digital billboard campaign this month to raise awareness about the newest public school option in Sumter! With Liberty STEAM Charter, parents now have an additional choice for their child’s education. Prospective parents of scholars who will be in grades K-1 the fall of 2021 can complete a pre-enrollment interest form NOW to prepare for the initial enrollment period, which begins October 1. - SSC Officially Establishes As A Separate Entity With Changes In Board Composition & School Name
A number of developments occurred at the regular monthly meeting of the Sumter STEAM Charter (SSC) Founding Board of Directors meeting on August 10. The board unanimously approved the school’s name be officially changed to Liberty STEAM Charter. Architect Scott Collins provided the board with an overview of the proposed renovation plans for the newly acquired facility at 15 School Street, which will be the school’s primary academy campus. As of Aug. 1, Dr. Khalil Graham officially began his work as the Founding Executive Director and Dr. Trevor Ivey now officially joins the school leadership team as its Founding Chief of Staff. David Loadholt stepped down from the board. The board received a wide variety of updates regarding its federal CSP grant, facility acquisition, email platform and its temporary office space. Also in attendance were three representatives from the SC Public Charter School District: (newly appointed) Superintendent Chris Neely, Chief of Staff Taylor Fulcher, and Board Chairman John Payne. - SSC Hiring Next Member of Leadership Team; Request Public's Feedback and Aug. Meeting Announced
The current two-member leadership team of Sumter STEAM Charter will soon expand to three with the position of Director of Advocacy & Engagement being added. Interested individuals can visit this page to view the full job description and apply for this position. Applications will continue to accepted through the month of August with the interview and selection process beginning in early September. The position is slated for a tentative start date in October. Separately, the Founding Board of Directors is asking for members of the public to provide feedback regarding the potential renaming of the charter school to reflect the rich legacy of excellence and pride of the former Liberty Street Elementary via a survey found on its website or its social media platforms. The survey will close Friday at noon when school leaders will analyze feedback and prepare for the August 10 meeting of the board, where this will be listed as an action item. The board will host its next monthly meeting of the 2020-21 school year at 11:30 am on August 10 at the Sumter Economic Development Building located at 10 East Liberty Street. - SSC Acquires Facility for Primary Academy & Engages the Community in Renaming of the Charter
SCDE’S Office of School Facilities & SCDOT Division of School Engineering have both approved the property acquisition for 15 School Street. Thanks to the amazing generosity of an anonymous donor, this building will officially serve as the Primary Academy Campus to educate our PK-2 scholars. An extensive renovation project will begin in early Fall to bring this building back to life and offer a world-class, STEAM-based education to our young scholars. Now that a facility has been acquired, the board is engaging the community in providing a more permanent name to honor both the legacy of the former Liberty Street Elementary School and also the educational programming Learn more, July 29 Press Release.
